The Jolly Beggar – At William’s Place<\/h2>\n

The Jolly Beggar is het allereerste nummer op onze allereerste cd, Celts in Kilts, later samengevoegd tot onze Rakkish Paddies-cd. Zelfs William was er nog niet voor de allereerste opname van de Jolly Beggar. Voor deze video op William’s Place zijn gelukkig zowel David als William aanwezig en klinken we veel beter en met meer harmonie.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Op de originele cover van Kelten in Kilts werd William gefotoshopt op de foto, waarbij zijn hoofd een kip verving =) Je kunt het verhaal in de onderstaande afbeelding zien.<\/p>\n

Background Info<\/h2>\n

The Jolly Beggar, ook wel bekend als The Gaberlunzieman, is Child ballad 279. Het refrein inspireerde Lord Byrons gedicht “So, we’ll go no more a roving”. The Child Ballads zijn 305 traditionele ballads uit Engeland en Schotland, en hun Amerikaanse varianten, samengesteld door Francis James Child in de tweede helft van de 19e eeuw. Hun teksten en Child’s studies ervan werden gepubliceerd als The English and Scottish Popular Ballads. De melodie\u00ebn van de meeste ballads werden verzameld en gepubliceerd door Bertrand Harris Bronson in en rond de jaren zestig.<\/p>\n
