Video: How we cook and eat at a festival – Rapalje (Cooking) Show #36

In this Rapalje Show we are going to teach you how to cook like proper chefs! We will prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner for you backstage at MPS and in the description you can find the recipes.

Please let us know what you think in the comments and we would love to hear if you have succeeded in making these wonderful dishes yourself!

The song you hear is a fan-favorite called ‘Wat Zullen We Drinken’ and is all about drinking, working, fighting, eating, singing and loving

Recipes from the video:

BREAKFAST (by David)

Ingredients (4 servings):
– 4 rye hardrolls (bakeoff)
– butter
– bacon
– 4 eggs
– cheese
– salt and pepper to taste

Bake the rye hardrolls in the oven (as instructed on the packaging) and make sure to speed up the instructed time because you are as impatient as David. Meanwhile put some butter in the pan, throw in the bacon (1 slice per person if you are a poor musician as we are) and the eggs. Add salt and pepper to taste. Bake on two sides and add some cheese (also just a bit; we have to watch our figure apparently). Slice open the bread, add the bacon/egg/cheese and enjoy!

LUNCH (by Dieb and David)

Ingredients (4 servings):
– eggs
– butter
– white bread
– cheese

Make scrambled eggs like you’re used to but use 1 extra egg yolk; you won’t be disappointed! And make sure to take your time; good scrambled eggs are made with love and patience.

For the toast, first butter the bread and top it with some cheese (lots of cheese actually) and put another buttered bread on top. Then put them in the already heated pan. Make sure to press the bread often to help it get burned a bit faster, flip it over and repeat. Don’t take it out too early, it needs to be nice and black so that when you put it on a plate, you can scrape off the burned bits and serve it to a good friend. DINER (by William)

Ingredients (4-10 servings)
– minced meat
– 3-4 onions
– 4 large carrots
– cabbage
– potatoes
– salt and pepper to taste
– blood and snot are optional serving suggestions
– beer (for yourself, not the meal)

Put the mince meat in the pan and stir with a knife to make sure it’s loosened. At this point it’s also important to remember that beer; you have to stay hydrated! Dice the onions and carrots and mix them in with the minced meat. Don’t forget to use a very sharp knife so you can accidentally cut yourself; this will add to the experience and who doesn’t like a little bit of blood in their food? Don’t worry about a bandage; a tissue will do just fine until you finish cooking.

Next: cut the cabbage in big pieces but before you do this, take off the outer leaf and put in on your head. THIS IS ESSENTIAL; otherwise your meal will be a fail and you will have to start again. Use the knife to mix all the ingredients in the pan. If, like William, you now have to do other stuff like performing on stage, you are allowed to use some tape to put on your cut. Just so you don’t bleed all over the stage. Oh don’t forget to add water so your meal can literally stew for a while.

After returning to your duties as a chef, make sure to keep an eye on the kids (or kid; David). It’s best to get some help for this and as you can see Dieb is an excellent babysitter.

Dice the potatoes, add salt and pepper to taste. William also demonstrates the option of sneezing into your food for some extra toppings but we don’t recommend it πŸ˜‰ Now you can eat!

BONUS: how to make your own serving spoon!

Cut a plastic bottle in half πŸ˜‰

ENJOY!
